Guarding this crossing point of the border line, the monument stands in a dominant position on a hill, to the south of the village, on the right bank of the San Marcos river, at its confluence with the Guadiana River. On the opposite bank of this one can be observed the Castle of Sanlúcar de Guadiana, in territory of Spain.
This fortification came to the twentieth century, was quite ruined, had works of consolidation and restoration, the responsibility of the Directorate General of National Buildings and Monuments, was classified as Property of Public Interest, already in 1993, and currently operates inside a museum of archeology.
