It is surrounded by beautiful colonial houses with traditional balconies; In many cases, these houses have been converted into hostels, restaurants, and commercial houses. It is also surrounded by important religious and civil buildings, such as the Cathedral, the Municipal Palace and the house where the precursor of independence, Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza, was born, which today is the home and seat of the bishopric.
Chachapoyas city center.
Its design is quadrangular, having each of its sides 100 meters long. Its lines and features of clear Hispanic (colonial) influences, contrast sharply with the beautiful bronze basin of the nineteenth century of republican style, which is imposed, shines and impresses in the central part of this urban space. This pool was sent from Europe together with another of the same design, but larger, destined for the city of Trujillo. However, when arriving at the port of Callao, the mayor of Chachapoyas changed boxes to the pools because he thought that such a small pool would not look good in a large plaza as large as the one in the city of Chachapoyas.
