The Royal Museum of Mariemont, located on the estate of Mariemont in Morlanwelz, in the province of Hainaut (Walloon region of Belgium) brings together the various collections of Raoul Warocqué, the last owner of Mariemont, whom he league at his death (1917) at the 'Belgian State, with the entire domain.

The museum is particularly rich in these collections of Tournai and antique porcelain. It includes some fine Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Far Eastern antiquities. Sections devoted to archeology and regional history of Hainaut.

The museum also honors the exceptional personality of Raoul Warocqué, man of culture, great collector - even if eclectic (Hainaut as much as the Far East) - and patron of the Center region (in Belgium) to whom the rest are three tied up all his life.

The museum organizes numerous temporary exhibitions and publishes monographs and catalogs on the works exhibited.

Richard Schellinck, secretary and librarian, is the first curator of Raoul Warocqué's museum in Mariemont. Three faithful to the spirit of the former owner of the premises, he implements his decisions.

In 1934, Paul Faider held the Royal Museum of Mariemont and the Radical Transformations. The space is museographed, works are restored, the first catalog is published. It was also at this time that the circle of "Friends of Mariemont" was inaugurated.

In 1940, Germaine Faider was the second child of the very successful son of life. It was renovated, completed the collections and created the educational service in 1946.

On Christmas night 1960 a fire if this becomes clear. Thanks to Germaine Faider, the damage to the collections was minimal and the Warocqué castle was devastated. What remains of it is razed with the exception of a small wing added by Raoul Warocqué which now houses the museum reception.

A modern building is erected, designed by Roger Bastin (1913-1986), also architect of the Museum of Modern Art in Brussels. The new Royal Museum of Mariemont was inaugurated on October 8, 1975 under the direction of Guy Donnay, who continued until 1993 the policy initiated by Germaine Faider.

Recognized as a scientific establishment after 1965, the museum acquired in 1981 the status of Scientific Establishment of the French Community of Belgium.

After 2002, the direction of music is part of the direction between a director, François Mairesse and a scientific director, Marie-Cécile Bruwier.

The Mariemont museum was completed in 2007 at the Musée de la Wallonie.
