The Volkspark Schönholzer Heide in the Berlin district of Niederschönhausen, locality Schönholz, is a personal, natural, hilly forest park with an area of about 35 hectares. This is the rest of the normal beautiful wooded areas all the way up to Jungfernheide.
In the early 1750s, Queen Elisabeth Christine owned land here for a mulberry plantation. As the wife of Frederick II, she was banished to Schönhausen Palace in Niederschönhausen. The plantation, which organizationally belongs to the Niederschönhausen Castle Park, was called the Queen Plantation.
From 1763 the queen settled countless colonists, linen weavers and cloth makers from Saxony and Thuringia, possibly also from Swabia, on the edge of the plantation. According to Zeit, the Tuchmacherweg refers.
From 1791 the colony was called Schönholz and from the middle of the 19th century the Queen's Plantation became a small estate. A 1800 was the last "old castle" before the rich manor house administration, from 1872 to 1884 Henriette Jenrich owned the girls' school. The Berliner Schützengilde is based on the beginning of the 20th century.
The Pankow V cemetery on the Tuchmacherweg goes back to the colonist settlement and was closed in August 2007 without the right to subsequent burial, which will be freely usable from 2037.
Schönholz was incorporated into Berlin together with Niederschönhausen in 1920 and belongs to the XIII. District.
From 1900 the southern part of the area was a destination for Berlin day trippers. In addition to restaurants and the shooting range, there were also bare tennis and soccer fields and a toboggan run. The newly built restaurant Schloß Schönholz was determined using the remains of the old manor house and, above all, a large hall construction helped. The relocation of the amusement park from Lalen-Park to Schönholzer Heide. The attractions included a ferris wheel and a roller coaster.
The beginning of the second life was converted from 1940 onwards as the "Luna camp" for the forced laborers. The warehouse was built on the initiative of the German weapons and ammunition factory and became the largest expanded warehouse in Berlin. The foreigners housed here were classified according to their country of origin, primarily for forced labor in the Bergmann electricity works in Wilhelmsruh and for Nazi armaments factories in Reinickendorf. In addition to the barracks, Schönholz Castle itself was treated as the "Schönholz Poland Camp".
In 1943 there was a need for space for the inner-city bomb victims. The municipal cemetery Pankow VI on a large parking area was stopped by Hermann-Hessen-Strasse behind the shooting range. In 1946 there was no need for war victims, it was closed and in 1981 it was closed. The conditions of use 2006, from 2016 the area will be free for a follow-up.
Between 1945 and 1947, the Schönholzer Heide served the Red Army as a storage area for dismantled factory equipment.
