With an area of 1,560 km2, Lake Argentino is the largest in the Republic of Argentina and the third in South America.
Lake Argentino gives rise to the Santa Cruz River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The special color of its waters is due to a thin glacial union product called glacial milk.
The round bay is the part of Argentino lake that faces the city of El Calafate. It is formed by a round and shallow closed section that is only communicated to the Argentine Lake through a passage to the left of the Lonely Island. This is one of the best reasons to visit the city in winter, although in summer it also has its charm due to the long sunsets in the area.
