Baquedano Street is testimony to the rise of the nitrate industry in our province. The houses were built between 1820 and 1920. During the Peruvian administration this street was called Santa Rosa, later Huáncavelica; later, in the Chilean administration Manuel Baquedano Gonzalez.

The houses built with Oregon pine, wood that came to this port from the United States and Canada, built by the simple frame system or "Balloon Frame", Georgian architectural style. Its beautiful corridors to the street stand out with light wooden pillars and balustrades and beautiful door and window frames, the use of skylights or lanterns, gazebos and the shaded aerial ceiling on the roof, which are recurring elements of this harmonious set of landmark legacy of the great nitrate feat.

Today Manuel Baquedano Street, converted into a public walk. During the day it brings together various antique dealers, who along with offering the most unusual products recall the time of the nitrate works.
