Located in the center of the city of Funchal, the Cathedral was built during the reign of Dom Manuel, acquiring characteristic features of the Manueline and Gothic period, traces that later agglutinate characteristics of later styles inside.
Its facade, divided in three cloths, presents a beautiful Gothic portal in the central cloth, composed by stonework of the Girão Cape.
The gothic portal features eight archivolts in ogival arch, giving magnificence to the entrance. Over the years the cathedral has acquired new characteristics, making it an example of artistic miscegenation.
Its ceiling is an excellent example of Mudejar decoration made in cedar of the island, requiring special attention, as well as the main chapel's chapel.
Opening of the Church: 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Visiting Hours for Groups: Every day from 9am to 11am and from 4pm to 5:30 p.m.
Mass: weekdays at 8am, 8:30 am, 11:15 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. | Sunday at 8 am, 9 am, 11 am, 5 pm and 6:15 pm
