It was built in the 1930s.
On July 3, 1939, Pope Pius XII divided the dioceses of Santa Fe to create the dioceses of Resistencia. On April 1, 1984, Pope John Paul II rose to the rank of archdiocese.
May 5, 1999, the effective power of the Province of Chaco, declaration of cultural heritage of the province of the Cathedral of Resistencia.
At the end of 2008, deep remodeling works, both internal and external, were carried out, which had a culminating closure for Easter Sunday 2009.
The Cathedral of San Fernando Rey de Resistencia, in Argentina, is the seat of the archdiocese of Resistencia. It is the head of an ecclesiastical province that extends to the provinces of Chaco and Formosa.
It is made up of three dioceses: the archdiocese of Resistencia, and the seat of suffrage: the diocese of Formosa and that of the Roque Sáenz Peña Presidency.
