The building does not have architectural characteristics similar to those of Paraguay, nor can it be framed within a certain style, since it is unfinished. Its design shows external influences, with respect to the facade, the tower, the bell tower and the side galleries.

On the other hand, the temple has a body and an apse typical of the Early Christian basilica, and on the other, the transept that appears in the Constantinian basilica. It also has deep side chapels, communicated with each other, that appear in the Gothic period.

Its interior is illuminated by 41 of the 66 windows located in three different levels, generated by the naves and 7 large doors, three in the frontal access, two in the transept and two more in the middle point of the lateral walls, thus having , direct access on three sides, and indirect, by the sacristy located to the south.

The church of the Incarnation is a religious temple of Roman Catholic cult under the Marian advocation of Our Lady of the Incarnation located in one of the hills of the city of Asuncion, state capital of Paraguay.

The monument has a Roman-Corinthian style, similar to that of European cathedrals. Its construction began in 1893 and was in charge of the Italian architect Juan Colombo.

The church of the parish of La Encarnación had the peculiarity of having had several settlements prior to the temple that we know today.

First settlement (1539-1543)

It dates from 1539. It was located in the bay ravine. According to Felix de Azara, it was built by Captain Domingo Martínez de Irala.

Second settlement (1543-1697)

The stories indicate that the governor Alvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca ordered the reconstruction, in the place where the strong house was previously.

Third settlement (1697-1797)

By order of the Cabildo on March 26, 1697, it was arranged to be moved one block away, more or less at Palma Street, where the ruined chapel was erected in homage to Santa Lucia.

Fourth settlement (From 1797 to 1818)

According to the plans of Ramón de César in 1797, this new church facing the bay was moved over the streets La Encarnación (today August 15) and Presbítero Hernández (Palma).

Fifth settlement (From 1818 to 1889)

Due to the collapse in 1818 of the fourth settlement, the church had to move again to the Convent of the Dominicans, given that this order had been expelled by Dr. Francia closing the convent.

Sixth settlement (1889 to the present)

It was implanted on one of the seven hills that form the morphology of Asunción, the "Loma Volo Cue".

It is his last and definitive location, on the streets Pilcomayo (today Eduardo Víctor Haedo), May 14, Humaitá.

The work, which is closely linked to national events, also became a blood hospital during the Chaco War (1932-1935). In addition, it is the only church in the country that has a pipe organ.
