Española Island used to be known as Hood, being home to several species of animals of interest, such as the endemic Espanola Mockingbird, the Blue-footed Alcatraz, the Galapagos Torch, the Galapagos Gorge, the marine iguana, albatrosses and pinnipeds.

Due to its location, the Spanish island maintains a high percentage of endemic fauna.

The island has a length of 60 km2 and a height of 206 meters above sea level. Española is an island destined to the conservation of its biodiversity, from where research studies are carried out and it also receives visits from tourists.



The albatross colony stands out, of which an estimated 15,000 pairs, a large part of which are found on the island's tourist routes, without fear of being harassed. The albatross colony is found in late March at the beginning of the day, and it is one of the most incredible seashells found in the Galapagos. .



It is also possible to observe masked boobies, whose nesting area is different from that of the blue-footed boobies. There are in addition to the tropical palm trees in its mountains, the canyons of beautiful colors that cover the expanses of black lava; Multi-colored forked-tailed gulls.



On the islands of Spain it is possible to find marine iguanas and lava lizards. In addition, you can observe one of the wonderful species of birds Nesomimus macdonaldi of Galapagos and endemic to this island.



Another curious object on Española Island is a kind of geyser, not only in the volcanic area, but also in a tunnel that enters a range of certain characteristics that are sold by a pump at the end, raising the water to a height of 20 meters. with the breeze, in a fine light.
