Built in 1781 by the City Council (protector of the interests of the population with regard to water supply), this fountain (one of the symbols of Borba village), has been a National Monument since 1910.
The Fountain of Bicas was intended to be a monument to Borba, by the use of marbles, and by the reconstruction of the lake.
Due to the novelty it brought to the Alentejo, Fonte das Bicas was a model for other monumental fountains that appeared after it in the region.
