On the slope of Cerro Unitas, 84 kilometers from Iquique, the geoglyph of the Giant of Atacama is displayed. The largest prehistoric anthropomorphic figure in the world.



The Atacama Giant measures 86 meters high, a pre-Inca image drawn with an accumulation of stones and ground scraping in Cerro Unitas, 84 kilometers northeast of Iquique. Considered the largest anthropomorphic figure in the world, it corresponds to the representation of a divinity made by cultures that inhabited the region between 1000 and 1400 AD. To the right of the giant you can see the staff or staff, while at the height of his knees, you can see the feather ornaments that account for his hierarchy.





San Pedro de Atacama is located 1,670 kilometers north of Santiago, the capital of Chile. To get to San Pedro you have to go to Calama, the closest city, linked to San Pedro by an excellent paved road with a beautiful desert landscape.

By bus:

The trip takes 20 hours from Santiago. There is a good level of service and comfort in buses with semi-bed seats.

By plane:

It is the fastest way to access Calama and then to San Pedro de Atacama (98 kms.).

From Santiago there are 5 daily frequencies on weekdays and 3 daily frequencies on weekends through Lan Chile.

The cheapest round-trip fare to Calama costs around 120,000 (US 200). To access this rate, the ticket must be purchased 4 to 7 days in advance and the stay must include a Saturday.

By car:

For those who venture to arrive by car from Santiago, you should take Route 5 - Panamericana Norte.



It is recommended to make the trip in 2 sections, stopping in Caldera (870 km.) Or Bahía Inglesa and then continuing the next day direct to Calama (800 km. More), where you can stock up on everything you need to take to San Pedro.





One of the most impressive archaeological attractions in northern Chile, it is part of a set of 21 geoglyphs on the side of this hill located in Huara. In it, two panels are identified, one facing south, with 12 geometric figures and one zoomorphic, and the other facing west, where the immense humanoid can be seen along with other geometric figures.
