In 1987, a small team of Peruvian archaeologists, led by Dr. Walter Alva, found a place called Huaca Rajada. the tomb of an important Mochica ruler with all his ornaments, riches and symbols of command. The discovery went around the world and was compared to the discovery of the tomb of the pharaoh Tutankhamun in 1922.
Located 35 kilometers southeast of Chiclayo. (45 minutes by car) Visits Mon-Sun 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The construction is made up of a low platform and two adobe pyramids. In the discovery it was found that the dignitary's grave was accompanied by the remains of a warrior, a priest, two women, a child, a llama and a guardian with amputated feet.
The Lord of Sipán died 1770 years ago. As sovereign he was considered semi divine. He lived about 40 years and was 1.67 mt. of height.
In their lavish attire, the following stand out: necklaces, pectorals, earmuffs, nose rings, helmets, bracelets and scepters, the combined use of gold and silver predominant.
