The Guarani Jesuit mission of Jesús de Tavarangué was founded in 1678 on the banks of the Monday River by the Jesuit Gerónimo Delfin, although the settlement has changed several times due to the hostility of the Brazilians who attacked them and took them as slaves.
In this mission, one of the largest churches of the time began to be built, which had to be left unfinished due to the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1768 by Charles III from Spain.
It is 38 km from the city of Encarnación.
It was rediscovered almost 2 centuries later, declaring World Heritage by UNESCO in 1993.
