Originally a mountain castle, currently its two wall panels, internal and external, are inserted in the urban mesh. Ex-libris of the city, from the top of its walls you can see the waters of the rivers Coura, Balsemão and Varosa.
The castle was classified as National Monument by Decree published on June 23, 1910.
