Located 4 km from the historic center, on the road to Monserrate.
Crucial in its development was what would become the 1st Viscount of Monserrate, Francis Cook. Together with the landscape painter William Stockdale, the botanist William Nevill, and the master gardener James Burt, contrasting scenarios have been created along sinuous paths through ruins, corners, waterfalls and lakes, suggesting, through apparent disorder, the dominion of Nature over Man. Thus, and always counting on the presence of spontaneous species of Portugal (arbutus, olive trees, cork oaks, among others), it organizes the garden with collections of plants of species from the five continents, proposing a tour around the world: Australia, agaves, palm trees and yucca recreate a scene in Mexico; rhododendrons, azaleas, bamboos to the garden of Japan. In total there were more than 2,500 species!
