The Royal Castle of Berchtesgaden is a building managed by the Foundation of the Augustinian Canons in Berchtesgaden, its beginnings date back to around 1102 and the renovations were in disrepair, including the residence of the Prince Rector of Berchtesg. From 1810 the rights belong to the Bavarian royal family and now belong to the compensation fund Wittelsbach.

Countess Irmingard von Sulzbach praised the groups of an Augustinian canonical monastery. Construction began a year after his death in 1102 and was owned by the first rector Eberwin in 1112 (1116 according to other sources). Starting with up to seven guns, Rottenbuch's first in the Allgäu saw the Eberwin clearing and monastery gradually. In 1122, under his auspices, a construction phase or "emergency building" of the collegiate church of Saint Peter and John the Baptist, which was part of the palace complex, was inaugurated by Archbishop Konrad of Salzburg. After his death in the second half of the 12th century, it was preceded by a building heavier than a basilica of Romanesque pillars with three naves and even less the first towers, of which there is still no description in the picture and picture.

In the centuries that followed, the adjoining buildings of the monastery expanded more and more. To the east of the 1180 Romanesque monastery was a Gothic hall with two naves. His decision is a south side of 1500 Renaissance salons. The south baroque wing was added in 1725. Since canons never had enough money, the buildings have been preserved to this day.

As the headquarters of the rectors and ruling princes, these buildings also acted as the secular residence of the princes of an immediate imperial state, which existed as the Land of Berchtesgadener or Prince Rector of Berchtesgaden until it was mediated in the course of secularization in 1803 .

After secularization in 1803 and the associated end of the provincial war regime, the state of Berchtesgaden first joined the regressive constituency of Salzburg, beginning in 1805 with the Austrian Empire and in 1809 for a short period with Napoleon's France. . In 1810, the real Bavaria became reality.

In 1818, the political part of the palace was designated as the summer residence of King Maximilian I, the first and second floors and the archives building were lost until 1828 and the regional court. Besides Maximilian I, the Bavarian kings Ludwig I and Maximilian II, who succeeded him and who also built the royal villa in Berchtesgaden, [4] and Lud Sohnigig's prince regent Luitpoldn called out. often in the old pen.

In 1918, during the November Revolution, he lost his right to the throne, and Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria and his family moved to the castle in Berchtesgaden. Their stay lasted from 1922 to 1933 and three of their children were born there.

Sometimes the castle is still in the possession of Rupprecht's grandson, Franz Duke of Bavaria, as a second home.

In 1952, the Traunstein Regional Court heard the sensational "Küßwetter trial" in the castle. Ranger Georg Küßwetter and other forest rangers were responsible for the arson, alpine huts and demolition of the former military powerhouse under the Blaueis glacier. Küßwetter's instigation of this likely war was not based on his animosity towards tourists, as he wanted the Wehrmacht House to be used by the Alpine Association as a new Blue Ice Hut in the fall.

Crown Prince Rupprecht has already made the castle public. 30 out of 120 are expected today. Rupprecht provided them with original furniture, tapestries and photographs from public times. I have displayed richly stocked arsenals for shotguns and pistols for three centuries. Drinking feathers, halberds, and flanking guerrillas recognize armor.

Special furniture also awaits the visitor. The so-called corner table without the date 1591 is on the table, without the Solnhofen stone the table top is treated with nitric acid. The tabletop features a six-part motif of Palästrina, the Passion of the Christ, the perpetual calendar, allegories of the planets and the coat of arms of the Wittelsbach family.

A Baroque writing cabinet from 1750 is known as the convict's office. Master cabinetmaker Johann Georg Wahl did this for voter Karl Theodor von der Pfalz and was imprisoned for certification reasons. The cabinet must get Wahl's forgiveness. It consists of 72 drawers, two of which are secret drawers. It is decorated with mother-of-pearl, ivory, ebony and wood with horns inlays.

Large dining room with Nymphenburg porcelain centerpiece

In the palace, in the personal quarters of Crown Prince Rupprecht, is the large dining room, in which Nymphenburg porcelain has been used as decoration. A centerpiece from 1755 could be improved that should have been in the gardens of Nymphenburg Palace. When the centerpiece was first used, it was a political draw that old china was made by guards.

In addition to the furniture, many works of art and paintings can be seen in the palace, the public rights of Tilman Riemenschneider, Veit Stoss, Peter Gertner, Barthel Beham and paintings of the Munich School.

In summer you can also visit the small rose garden in good weather.

The rooms can only be seen as part of a tour that has more than 30 rooms. This is offered all year round. Before and at Christmas north of night excursions to Berchtesgaden Castle. The glow of imaginary chandeliers and up to 800 candles give the visitor a special atmosphere. Leadership interests await visitors. In the period before Christmas there are special advent trips with Christmas texts and songs. Berchtesgaden Nord castle can be given a musical tour and one of the singers in different relationships will perform the music and with it the museums that live there. Pieces from Mozart to Sinatra are on offer.

The deer museum has been located in the castle stables since 2005. There is a separate contact person in natural science especially for lovers of hunting and nature in the North.
