The Cathedral of Fort-de-France (Saint-Louis de Fort-de-France Cathedral) is a Roman Catholic cathedral, and a national monument of France, located in the city of Fort-de-France, the capital of Martinique.
General characteristics
It was designed by the Parisian architect Pierre-Henri Picq and erected between 1891 and 1895. It is the seventh temple built on the site, the first having been burned by the Dutch in 1674.
Picq was commissioned to build that could withstand frequent fires, hurricanes and earthquakes. The material used by the architect was wood, and he used the foundations of a previous temple from the 17th century for its construction.
