The indigenous called Boquiní, inhabited the space included in the eastern part of Ocaña (today it corresponds to the Beach, San Calixto and Teorama).

The submission of the Boquiní was late, in relation to other aborigines in the area, due to the difficult penetration by the indigenous rebellion and the low demographic density.

The first encomendero known to be was Luis García Romany, who shared the task with Gonzalo Yáñez Caballero. According to the title given by the Governor Captain General of Santa Marta, Don Juan Giral Vellón, in 1602.

In 1645, Doña Clara Romany inherited the commission by adjudication from Governor Vicente de Villalobos.

The Boquiní, recovered their autonomy when the encomienda was not renewed and were concentrated as the town of San Andrés, approximately in 1725.

At the end of the 17th century, the area was subjected to permanent land disputes and various land titles.

The great landowner of the Boquiní district was Buenaventura de León, who acquired this land in 1774.
