It is part of the Laguna San Rafael National Park, which covers an area of 1,742,000 hectares. San Rafael Lagoon was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1979 by Unesco.
In the lagoon stand out the huge floating icebergs, the San Valentín glacier and the usual ice fall, which can be seen from the boats that arrive at the lagoon. They stay around for about 6 hours and use the boats for sightseeing. To access San Rafael Lagoon, there are several cost and time alternatives. Some boats make the journey during the day and others take up to 5 days.
