There was a small chapel on the porch of the 16th century. XVII dedicated to Santiago that was demolished at the end of the century. XIX.
According to tradition, an image of the Virgin Mary was brought to Guimarães by the apostle St. James, and placed in a pagan temple on a square that was renamed St. James's Square. A very old square, referred to over time in various documents, still preserves the medieval moth. It was in the immediate vicinity that the Franks who came to Portugal settled in the company of Count Henry.
