This famous Prague setting is closely linked to Mozart's name. The composer spent several seasons in Prague, where he directed "The Marriage of Figaro" and presented for the first time "Don Giovanni". Dedicated "To the mother country to the muses" (Patriae Et Musis), this neo-classical style building offers quality programming in a magical environment.
Built at the end of the 17th century at the request of the aristocratic František Antonín Nostitz, the Theater of the States lies next to the Carolina University of Prague. Thanks to the support of Emperor Joseph II of Habsburg, the first stone was laid in 1781 and the Theater opened in 1783 by the tragic Emilie Galotti of Lessing. Beautiful neoclassical construction, the double columns of the facade and the semi - circular windows are works of the architect Antonín Haffenecker. Called "Theater of the States" since its acquisition by the Czech states in 1798, it is one of the few European theaters that converted its original state.
German-speaking Czech, Count Nostitz guided the Theater to presentations of German works and Italian operas in the 1920s, a year in which the State Theater and the National Theater became only one institution. The most famous guest of the theater was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who fell in love with Prague so much that he premiered his work "Don Giovanni" and triumphed with "The Marriage of Figaro". Besides Mozart, several artists with international fame attended the Theater: Carl Maria von Weber, Nicolo Paganini, Rubinstein, Carl Goldmark and Gustav Mahler.
To conclude, it was here that the operetta "Fidlovačka" by Josef Kajetán Tyl was presented, which contains what would be "the continuation" of the Czech National Anthem: Kde Domův Muj? ("Where is my house?").
The magnificent neo-baroque room stands out for its incredible acoustics and its capacity for 600 people distributed in places of various categories (Orchestra, balcony ...) from where you can admire ballets and prestigious operas in a magical environment.
